Prayer for those in Newtown

posted Dec 22, 2012, 10:18 AM by St.Thomas Communications

Loving God, we pray for those who have died today in Connecticut, both children and adults.
We pray especially for the parents and family members in their loss.
We pray for emergency responders and the whole local community in this trauma.

Loving God help us to be agents of peace in a world where there is violence.
Help us to seek to live in peace and safety in our homes and in our communities.

Loving God be with all who have died, and all who suffer this day in Connecticut, and throughout the world.
We make this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, who died that we might have new life and hope. Amen

Chilliwack Connect - Community Service Day

Chilliwack Connect

Community Service Day Saturday, October 13, 2012

8:30 am ― 3:30 pm

First Avenue Christian Assembly

46510 First Avenue, Chilliwack

*Free Breakfast & Lunch provided* (list of things needed is in an attachment at the end of this letter)

This year, the Chilliwack Connect Committee will host its annual Chilliwack Connect event on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at First Avenue Christian Assembly. Last year’s event was a great success providing over 600 guests with food, clothing, haircuts, and most importantly, community connections.

Chilliwack Connect is a community-based event. It is organized and hosted by local service agencies, churches and volunteers. This event is not funded by government. We are seeking community donations of supplies and funds to cover the costs of food and minimal organizing expenses. Last year some of our major supporters included, Hofstede’s Country Barn, Sardis Bakery, Starbucks, Meadow Valley Meats, Johnston Packers, Agropur Foods, the City of Chilliwack, the United Way of the Fraser Valley, and many, many more.

Our service providers that day will include, but not be limited to, the Ministry of Social Development, Fraser Health, the Salvation Army, the Mennonite Central Committee, Chilliwack Community Services, Ann Davis Transitional Society, Pacific Community Resources Society, Street Hope, and many others.

This year we hope to reach even more individuals and families within our community. Our goal is to help people improve their quality of life, and to link them to lasting service connections. We aim to reach this goal by providing direct services on site, rather than offer referrals or literature. This will include access to government services, health care, outreach and advocacy services, employment counselling and assistance, on-site child care, haircuts, foot care, clothing, food and much more.

We cannot run this event without your support. Your donations or presence as a volunteer will send a positive message to the community and to the hundreds of people who are homeless or in desperate need.

Thank you for considering making a donation to our Chilliwack Connect event. This event would not be a success without your support.

Sincerely,
