Deacons play a vital role in the life of the Church. They are called to cultivate and extend Jesus's servant ministry to a world that needs it. Deacons work to focus our attention on, engage with, and become advocates for the poor, the hungry, the marginalized, the dispossessed, and those suffering on account of injustice.
During the church service, deacons proclaim the Gospel because it is the source of commitment to just action. They also assist during communion, because this is the place for feeding for compassionate living. Finally, they dismiss us at the end of the service and encourage us to go forth and be Christ-like in and for the world.
Rev. Jennifer has been a lively member of our church for many years. She was ordained as deacon in 2009. Rev. Jennifer is very involved in the work of pastoral care, including visitation and prayer in care homes and in the hospital. In addition, she co-teaches Education for Ministry (EfM), a four-year distance learning certificate programme of theological education for lay people. Please contact Rev. Jennifer if you would like to be involved in either pastoral work or EfM.
