A message from The Very Reverend Christopher Pappas,

Dean of the Diocese of New Westminster and Bishop’s Commissary

on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Please hold her and all the Royal Family in your prayers. Please pray for King Charles.

Parishes that have a bell should toll the bell immediately or as soon as possible. If the capacity exists, the tolling should be “half-muted”. It should be tolled once per minute, a total of 96 times (once for every year of Her Majesty’s life).

I invite every parish in their prayers to remember the Queen with thanksgiving and to pray for the Royal Family in their grief and the transition of the monarchy in coming days. Parishes are asked to consider holding a service to mark Her Majesty’s death at an appropriate time.

I will consult with Bishop Stephens, who is currently in the Philippines where he is attending the consecration of Bishop Benny Lang-akan of the Diocese of Northern Philippines, and we will plan for a diocesan event at the Cathedral after his return.

Christ Church Cathedral is open as a place of prayer, and contemplation. A Book of Remembrance will be available at the Cathedral. The sanctuary is open from 10am to 4pm for anyone who wishes to take moment for silent prayer and reflection to remember Queen Elizabeth.
